Elephants have ways of coping with mortality all the time! They mourn their lost loved ones and even preform burials and funerals. Elephants famously never forget, and are widely known for remembering the death of loved ones. I wouldn’t say it’s organized religion, but I bet you elephants have a level of spirituality within their culture.
