Has Spain Really Got That Bad?

Was born in Spain and have lived here on and off for about 55 years. I entirely agree with what you say about the pros & cons but that is something that happens in any country in the world. A great summary!

Migrants from Africa/Asia tend to be net takers, not net contributors. There is also the issue of cultural incompatibility - we have to face this reality and decide what we want our society to be - safe/high trust OR like countries where these migrants are now en masse in northern Europe - the UK, Germany and Sweden have seen the problems that mass migration from incompatible cultures bring - and that's before the strain on existing infrastructure, housing, medical care etc

I stopped caring what the press and ignorant fools of the world had to say about anything several decades ago. Spain is awesome. I wish I was living there. Hopefully one day. A Coruña. ¡Viva España!

Spain's positives FAR outweigh her negatives and I've only visited once...so far!! I intend to visit her as often as I can, starting next month...and I KNOW that I'm going to have damn good time!! Thank you, Stu; I will definitely try and visit the lesser known areas too!

¡Muy bien presentado, Stuart! I agree the many positives of life in Spain outweigh any negatives. When I was in Madrid in May, I loved exploring its barrios, including vibrant and diverse Lavapiés. Living in San Diego, CA, Washington, DC, and Spain, as well as world travel, have helped me adapt and thrive in diverse environments. I can't wait to be back in Spain in October.

I don't know Stuart, I've been in Madrid for seven years now and am getting strong desires to move back to rural North Yorkshire where I'm from. I'm still of working age and the job market is diabolical even in Madrid. I was looking into moving somewhere a bit more rural outside of the city but considering the issue with wildfires (my mother-in-law's house is in one of the towns which just got evacuated, and we have no idea if it survived as she's not allowed back yet) I'm having second thoughts. Yes, retired with a decent UK pension and loving somewhere on the coast, fantastic life! But to work and save here, personal experience tells me not so great.
