Hi Stuart. Thank you for updating people on this fire. We live in Turre, the next village away from Los Gallardos. As I write we can hear planes going over after dipping into the sea for water to expunge this fire. As far as I am aware it is now smaller but still active. As you are probably aware Almeria is the desert of Europe so most vegetation at this time of year is very dry. Coupled with the low humidity (our thermometer recorded 15% with a 41 deg in the shade heat yesterday) did not help matters. Hoping that no more fatalities are recorded and those missing are found safe and well. The phone signal in this area can be poor at times. Thank you again for bring this to the attention of people interested.
Terrible news. Sympathies to all impacted and their families. 😔
Sorry to hear this sad news Stuart. Thank you for keeping us informed. Our thoughts are with the families that’s been affected.
My husband & I noticed poles down along the motorway there months ago! They are building the track for the high-speed train from Barcelona in our area. So a lot is going on. Almeria is a desert area, and we had a lot of rain here at the start of the year. It was really green. Of course, now we have had the heatwaves, so all this growth has dried out, creating a tinderbox. It is awful. My thoughts and prays go out to the families involved.
This is a very sad case. I say to people looking to live in rural areas, check the countryside vegetation. Imagine what it would be like in the dry summer months. It's not worth the risk. Dreadful.
As an expat from Turre, our thoughts are with you and your familys
At least 4 British nationals have lost their lives.I do know Los Gallardos has a large mobile home site mostly British inhabitants.
