Trams do not stop in front of your house, there are tram stops. But if the route has been designed properly (normally, this is the case), you do not have to walk for long, since stops are placed in strategic places or close to densely inhabited areas

US suburbs loook like a dystopian movieset... everything looks the same..

I'm a Brit who was married to an American. We would visit her parents 4 weeks of the year. I decided to walk to the local Tom Thumb gas station, about a 20 minute walk there and back. The local sheriff stopped and asked me what I was doing. As soon as he heard my accent he understood and offered me a lift. On the way he was asking me all about England. He offered to give me a lift back but I said I needed to get some exercise so I don't get fat from driving everywhere. He laughed. I'm 63 now and still not fat. ✌️❤️🇬🇧

In Europe city planning requires that every area has easy access to everything. So if you have to have schools, shops, restaurants, a hospital, a post office, a park, a place for kids to play, a place where kids can play sports, everything you might need contained within that area.
