I’m sad I’m all caught up on your Asian series, but happy you’re sharing with us. Looks like a good time!
I'm with you on the dumplings, Deanna! I never met one i didn't LOVE!!!!😂
I was in Shanghai with my parents in 2013. On our first morning, we wanted something traditional for breakfast and ended up at a local spot similar to the one you showed with the wooden board menu. They spoke no English and we spoke no Chinese so through a bit of charades we ended up with three enormous bowls of broth with wontons and fried eggs. It was really nice but we could have probably shared one bowl 😂
For eating in the street the sheng jian bao and fried onion pancake looked delicious! If you have time you should try the many Uyghur restaurants in Shanghai. Love their food.
Thank you for the wonderful video of trying Chinese street food for the first time in Shanghai, China 👍
Hahaa! Big up from Sweden, jaao!
You need the cured contest sausage that's a bit sweet and salty. We buy it dried and packaged in the States. Not refrigerated. To cook it, we stick it in the rice cooker on top of the rice we're making. Also reddish in color. So fatty and we slice it up to eat with rice or add it to egg fried rice. I make the scallion pancakes! Lol good enough that my niece requests it. It's a bit of a pain to make but so good! Of all the foods you choose to let Phil try first, Xiao long baos should not have been one of them! 😂 Absolute sacrilege and massacre!
Ugh, watching videos about Chinese street foods and food in China in general, make me so depressed sometimes lol I haven't been back to China since 2000 sadly, but before that I went 6 or 7 times (it's been a while, I can't remember for sure lol) and while China has changed immensely since the last time I was there, the street food has always been a top tier thing. I'm sure health standards are better now (at least I'd hope so) and I did get quite sick a couple times (and I drank bottled water, so it wasn't the water) but the food is SO good. I'm glad more and more cities here in the US have a more robust street food scene these days, even if it's mostly food trucks. But man, you can get some incredibly good, cheap eats in so many Asian countries, it's not even funny. Great stuff.
